No. Just the size of the shot.
There is 0 buck, 00 buck, the smaller the number the bigger the shot. |

Buckshot is simply lead shot formed to larger diameters. Sizes range in ascending order from size B to size 0000.
Larger sizes of shot, large enough that they must be carefully packed into the shell rather than simply dumped or poured in, are called "buckshot." Buckshot is used for hunting larger game, such as deer (hence derivation of the name) |

Sniper has it all except for the 0000 shot size. I've never heard of it (the largest I know of is 000), but it's probably just a typo. Good info from him!

Simply, it's called 'buck shot', because one of it's main useful purposes is for hunting 'buck' (deer).

That's it, more or less, though some of the buckshot wouldn't be useful for any buck much larger than duiker. There is more to it than just the numbers, too: #4 buckshot is .24" in diameter, where #4 birdshot is .13". Buckshot sizes (US) range from T to 000, equivalents in British shells being AAA to LG, and German 5/0 to Posten II. The most popular size is 00, SG or Posten III. Of course, Americans have little reason to worry about the other nomenclatures, unless you're looking for SG to put in your double following up a wounded leopard in the brush on your safari (dream on!).

Yep, big game shot as opposed to smaller "birdshot" size lead sizes.
A large lead shot for shotgun shells, used especially in hunting big game. 0 is pronounced "ought" so the sizes read "ought buckshot," "double ought", etc. Size ..........Type .........weight ........diameter #0000 .......Buck ...........85 gr. ........0.380" #000 .........Buck ............70 gr. .......0.360" #00 ...........Buck .............53.8 gr. ...0.330" #0 .............Buck ............49 gr. ........0.320" #1 .............Buck ............40.5 gr. .....0.300" #2 .............Buck .............29.4 gr. ....0.270" #3 .............Buck .............23.4 gr. ....0.250" #4 .............Buck ..............20.7 gr. ...0.240" #FF ...........Buck .............18.2 gr. ....0.230" #F (TTT) ....Buck ..............16.2 gr. ....0.220" #TT ...........Buck ...............15.1 gr. ...0.210" #T .............Buck ................13.7 gr. ...0.200" |
