I'm looking into buying a handgun and I've always been a fan of the way a desert eagle looks.
Is it all apperance? Would another gun be better for me? (Me being a 21 year old girl, lol.) The reason I'm looking for a gun is because I work nights managing a movie theatre that's located across the street from an apartment comoplex that's notorius for high crimes including drug, rape, muggins, and murder. |

i was a cop for 5 years. my advice is to get a sig or smith and wesson 40 caliber compact. its a very comfortable weapon, doesnt kick that much with a firm grip. desert eagles are great weopons, but they can also be very expensive and large. glocks arnt bad either but i prefer sig. 40 cal is the perfect size. sig 40 is what all the detectives i worked with carried

They are junk, the favorite pistol of Hollywood action heroes and ghetto gangsta thugs.
They are all looks and myth.....serious gun shooters and owners mock with unabandoned scorn the fools that show up to the gun range with a "deagle"....... and with good reason. Heavy, expensive, unreliable, problematic and a whole list of other reasons back up the ridicule heaped on the lowly Desert Eagle. Almost any choice you make other than a DE is the right choice. Knowing why you want a gun is needed here. To learn to shoot, target shoot, etc. get a Ruger Mark III .22 pistol. For defensive purposes, get a medium or full sized frame .357 revolver in Stainless steel, made by Smith and Wesson, Ruger or Taurus, as your budget allows. Start with .38 Special ammo and after you have learned to shoot it, move up to .357 Magnum ammo. |

Forget about it.* The best choice is a Smith & Wesson 4" Barreled Revolver in 357 Magnum.* You can also shoot 38 caliber ammo in a 357 Magnum.* You get two (2)* handguns for the price of one.* Comfortable to shoot and carry.* It is a no nonsense man stopper of all.* Use 125 Jacketed Hollow Points for self-defense ammo in it.* Best VALUE & BEST CHOICE for anyone.*

dessert eagles are hollywoods favorite gun, and my least favorite. They are too large to conceal well, have limited magazine capacity, and are prone to problems. There are many many better choices out there than the DE for CCW.

If you are looking into personal defense, a concealable and more compact pistol is the way to go. With a Desert Eagle, it takes longer to draw the weapon. Also, a Desert is noisy and could break your wrist if you don't hold it right upon firing; which is likely because you may come into a situation that requires immediate response. Try the .38 snubbed nose or .45 acp.

For self defense gun the desert eagle isnt practical. It was originally designed by the Israeli military for checkpoint guards to take out engine blocks on cars that ran the checkpoints. get something smaller. Also if you buy one be prepared to pay almost 2 bucks a bullet.

You couldn't go more wrong than to get a Desert Eagle. It is about the worst chioce you could make. It is a huge gun that a woman would have an almost impossible time holding in her hand let alone shooting accurately. It would be impossible to carry concealed...... where the heck could you hide it? The .50 AE cartridge, which most people want who select a desert Eagle, is very expensive to shoot and has a pretty bad recoil. All around, the Desert Eagle is NOT the gun for you. It looks cool but that is about as far as it goes. The best gun for you would be a snubnose .357 magnum revolver. You could shoot .38 Special ammo in it for practice but load .357 mag. ammo in it when you are carrying it for personal protection. If I were you, I would get a stainless model because it resists rust much better than a blued gun. It also has the advantage of grabbing the attention of a bad guy if you have to draw it for protection. My wife carries a Taurus snub nose .357 revolver for her personal protection. It is loaded with Glazer ammo. Glazer ammo is an excellent man stopper and it is less likely to roccochet and hit an innocent person. I would select a revolver over a semi-auto because a revolver is suibject to fewer possibilities for failure to fire. A revolver is almost foolproof where a semi-auto takes special training to be able to handle any malfunctions. Stick with a revolver.

You definately should consider a handgun, but consider the ramifications of using it as well. 9 times out of 10 a criminal will simply run at the sight of a gun heald by a determined defender. However, criminals seem good at detecting when someone is just bluffing and too afraid to use it. In that case, a firearm will be more of a hazard than a help
Check out http://www.corneredcat.com/ it deals with the issue of self defense from a woman's angle, AND has a section on selecting guns. I'd tell anyone of any gender to stay away from the desert eagle. It is a show-off item, it is way to heavy to be practical, unreliable, and overly wide. It is a sign someone is immature and watches too many rap videos. About the only exception to that is people who already own a dozen handguns and just want one for the wow factor in their collection. No one seriously turns to the desert eagle for self defense or for hunting. Find a gun that fits you. If I were to name some handguns to give you a starting point, I'd say Walther PPS, Sig 239, and Kahr K9. All 3 are semiauto designs that work well for people who have hands smaller than the average white 6" male. All are available in 9mm or 40SW. I would suggest getting them or at least trying them in 9mm If you are interested in revolvers, I would suggest a Ruger SP-101 with a 3 inch barrel in 38 special, or in 357 magnum, which can ALSO shoot 38 special, so just use 38 special in it. |

I have Fired a desert Eagle very poor qualtiy gun in my experience inaccurate to. But if you have your heart set on a DE than buy one. If your looking for conclead carry Forget it. If you have experience with handguns i would go with an HK USP or a Compact. If your not very experienced at all. Like you have fired a pistol once. I would say to go with a glock in a smaller cal like 9 or 10 mm. Very user friendly them glocks are. The only thing is with HK and Sigs or any double action firearm that is stock. That first shot is double action on a sig And HK and its 12 1/2 pound triger pull. unless your pulling the hammer back manual.I was trained by a Law Enforcement officer not to do. That 12 1/2 pounds is hard to get used to if you are more familier with a 5 1/2 lbs on a 1911 or a Glock. But one should become proficient in shooting all kinds of firarms. Bottom line I need more info to make a more in depth answer for ya.

Have you ever tried just holding a Desert Eagle? If not, try it and then you decide if another gun would be better for you.

The Desert Eagle is a horrible handgun. It's heavy and unweildly, and the .50 AE is not so much 'overkill' than unnecessary, as in terms of pistol cartridges, the penetration and stopping powers top out around the .357 sig, and anything additional is quite a minor improvement.
This IMI pistol is a 'fun' conversation peice to own, and also alot of fun at the range, for iconic status, and surprising accuracy (the common idea about the recoil is a myth (the gun weighs ~ 5lb, the 'legendary wrist-breaking shock' is absorbed mostly. It's the gas-blowback ejection slider that hurts!), but as a personal-defense weapon? No Way. the best personal defense handguns are compacts or subcompacts. and a 7-round clip is truly insubstantial. Not to mention, the Desert Eagle is a heavy and long (bigger than 'standard' class handguns) so using it is a personal-defense situation is a terrible idea. And even though it provides as much stopping power as any other pistol, the 'accuracy' I touted in the last paragraph relies heavily on proper stancing, breathing and aiming with this BIG HEAVY gun. certainly conditions that will not exist in a situation in which you need protection As in a suggested personal-defense firearm? My personal favorite, and I think one of the best all-around pistols would be none other than the glock 33. http://www.usglock.com/index_files/glock... This is a 9-shot .357 sig, in SUBCOMPACT size. Such capacity, concealibility, and stopping power seldom come in a single package. The only downside is that it kicks HARD, and takes quite a bit of practice to get used to. However, with a steady hand you can easily get a 5-6 inch spread at 10 yards emptying the clip rapidly, and with .357 sig, that's probably enough to stop a charging tiger. Also the rounds are quite expensive. (but not ridiculous) I'd say go with the 33 |

I urge you to look at the Ladysmith 3913 pistol from Smith and Wesson. Here is a link to it

Honestly, the purse you would need to carry a Desert Eagle would be industrial sized and would be annoyingly heavy. If you seach around on YouTube you will find the clip of the young lady who fires a Desert Eagle the first time and hits herself in the head. While not the complete piece of junk some make it out to be it is a specialty handgun with limited practical use.
You need a gun that is small enough that you will always have it with you. Unfortunately the smaller the gun either the less comfortable it is to shoot, or the less powerful it is. You want either a revolver in .38 special or .357 magnum, or an auto pistol in 9mm, .40 S&W or .45 ACP. These are proven weapons and make the most sense for anybody to be carrying as a protection firearm. Look at the 5 shot snubby revolvers from S&W, and Taurus, and the small to mid size autos like Kahr Arms, Glock, S&W and so on. Make sure you practice with it. Only good hits work... |

I agree with every one else, the "D.E." is about as wrong a choice as you could make. But instead of telling you what is "best" for you I'll suggest you join the Second Amendment Sisters, go to one of there "Shoots" and try a bunch of different guns till you find one that fits you and that you shoot well.

I think it is all appearance and Hollywood
Remember that in the end it is shot placement that counts, so get a handgun that your are comfortable shooting. Maybe a Glock 17 or 19 might be helpful for you? Both the 17 and the 19 are chambered for 9x19mm and are very common handguns. If you even wanted to step it up to the next level, you could go for .40S&W Glocks (models 22 & 23) I have not had the privilege to use one yet, though. |

For a lady I suggest a nice two stage revolver in .357 magnum. You can shoot .38's out of it to get yourself use to the kick.
The reason I suggest a revolver for a lady is because you pull it out and shoot. There is no fumbling with a safety. |
