Outside military operations, there's really no need for either, except as a matter of showing the hair on your chest or the length of certain body parts, so suit yourself.

More sporting rifles are chambered in .338 RUM than there are .338 Lapua. Neither is as common as the .30 cal magnums, though, so you may check your local area for the availability of ammo before choosing to go with the .338. 38 hundredths of an inch isn't much of a difference in the end. Both will take down everything in North America, and a lot of the African plains game too.

As to wwd 's answer,there's no need for any guns outside military or professional application.
We all own them for the 'hairy/length factor' or a nicer way of saying it- general enjoyment As to the difference the Lapua based off the 416 rigby is a little more powerful than the 338 RUM which is based off the 404 Jeffery case. |
